Victoria’s ‘four seasons in one day’ reputation impacted the racing at Philip Island on the weekend!
But that didn’t slow down Josh Hunter (aged 17), of the Finance Ezi Racing Team who bounced back from recent run of bad luck to win all 3 races to claim his third round win of the year. He is currently leading in the Kumho Tyres V8 Touring Cars Series, being 40 points ahead of his nearest rival.
The Finance EZI Falcon performed beautifully and Josh drove it to perfection, once he’d recovered from a bit of a rough qualifying round.
Starting in fourth place in the first race didn’t faze Josh, he easily worked his way to the front to win the race by enough of a margin to get pole position for the next race on the Sunday.
A tentative start cost him the lead on the grid, but patience and tenacity paid off with a very capable win. In the third and final race of the weekend, Josh, belted into the yellow and black of the Number 3 Finance Ezi Racing Team car, was the first to see the chequered flag again, which gave him a clean sweep of wins. The first time this has happened in the series since he did the same thing in the opening round in March at Easterm Creek.
In Josh’s words, “Finally finished High School this week, so that’s two completed missions in the same week. I’m pretty happy about that. Was a great weekend at Phillip Island. Got the results we needed with 3 wins from 3 races! Now leading the championship by 40 points with 1 round to go.. Big thanks again to Finance Ezi.
Can’t wait for sandown!â€
